1.HAVE A COMPELLING STORY.
Stories move humans, especially human stories. Your personal story, perhaps your grass to grace or rags to riches or obscurity to celebrity story, will ALWAYS move people.

Start taking stock of your life experiences.Your failures, successes, experiences: take note of all of them. And then deduce li
fe lessons from them.

2.INTERVIEW SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE AND TELL THEIR STORY
If you don’t have a sensational story, start by telling other people’s stories.

3.LEARN HOW TO SPEAK.
Speaking is not A GIFT, it is a SKILL. Learn how. Read books, observe other speakers and practice.Attend seminars.Get certified.

4.DEVELOP A PRODUCT.
Write a book. Develop an audio cd or video cd. Publish a magazine, news letter. Create an inspirational website or blog and fill it with your stuff.

5.START AN NGO OR A BUSINESS.
Go to corporate affairs commission and register a human resource business or NGO. Put together a team.Learn leadership. It is easier that way.

6.GET CERTIFIED OR TRAINED.
Look for motivational bodies or reputable motivational speakers to certify or endorse you. PowerMinds Community is one of such. There is a training program you go through and then become certified by us.A number of people have gone through it.

Others are SCHOOL OF ELOQUENCE , a faculty of MOTIVATORS ACADEMY run by Ubong Essien, MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKERS NETWORK led by a number of people ,including Joshua O.Awesome and Fela Durotoye.Sam Adeyemi also runs a Leadership class DAYSTAR LEADERSHIP ACADEMY. In 2001 I was privilege to go through that class when it was called MINISTRY MENTORSHIP PROGRAM and handled through out by Sam Adeyemi himself. Abroad? You could join Toast Masters International. NSA (National Speakers Association)

7.GET TO THE MEDIA.
Write for a magazine. Present a radio program.Or feature on TV. At least get regular interviews in these media.

8.FIND A NICHE.
You could begin as a general motivational speaker, touching every area but over time you will need to focus on one area. Sales, Relationships, Business, Leadership, Customer service, Health, Network marketing, Finance etc. Find your area and stay there.

9.BRAND YOURSELF.
Your name should be short and memorable. If your birth name is tongue twisting ,change it to an easy to pronounce name. Have a great opener and traditional close.I do.Have a slang or motto, your audience can use and remember. I have.Create a logo, identify with a colour, style or dress.

10.LOOK FOR CLIENTS.
Learn marketing.Go and look for clients that can allow you speak. You may have to do a lot of free stuff.Churches could be a good place to start.I did.

11.NETWORK WITH OTHER MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKERS.
They are everywhere. I am one.Visit www.georgeessien.com.Though I must admit that I am still up coming and learning.I know a number of senior colleagues you may want to identify with. Uju Onyechere ,Praise George is another. He focuses a lot on relationships.Solomon James is a guru in network marketing and a motivational speaker.Kingsley Obiakor is another network marketer and motivational speaker. Niyi Adesanya, Fela Durotoye, Sunny Obazu Ojeagbase, Leke Alder(www.lekealder.com), Deolu Akinyemi(www.deoluakinyemi.com) and many others

12.CONNECT THE INTERNATIONAL MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKERS.
Read their books.Follow their website. Some of the very best are www.braintracy.com, www.tonyrobbins.com, www.jimrohn.com,www.lesbrown.com, www.patriciafripp.com and many more. You are a google away from this information.

Motivational speaking is not preaching. It is a speaking business. We charge for our service. It is not MCing, though some of us do it.It is a profession. We organize seminars, training programs and events. We consult for companies and give talks in a number of events.

We read wide.Good readers can make good speakers. We know history, lots of psychology, marketing, philosophy, business, sports. We are constantly researching.Uping our game.Horning our skill.

We derive satisfaction from ovations after our speeches.
We are glad when people tell us how our speeches move them.
We smile to the bank when our client pays us.

We are motivational speakers!

While some can do it part time or begin it part time, It can become a full time job.Personally, it is my full time job. And everyday is so busy for me I return to my flat exhausted
